DMS (Dealer Management System)

System of record for accounting, inventory, parts, and service at a dealership.

Definition

The DMS is the operational backbone of a dealership. CDK, Reynolds and Reynolds, Tekion, Dealertrack, and PBS are the major North American DMS providers. Most dealership data, including financial composites for 20 Groups, originates in the DMS.

Why it matters

Most AI plays touch the DMS in some way. Integration friction is the number one reason AI pilots stall.
